Projects "Teaching"
Teaching Lunches
The Teaching Lunches have become established and the project has been completed from a Fit for Future perspective. It will continue to be run by the Vice-Rectorate Teaching.
At the Teaching Lunch, members of the university can exchange ideas about good teaching across faculties, network and benefit from best practices in teaching. Participants gain an insight into the various faculties of the university and can discuss current teaching topics with their peers at the lunch. The event, which takes place twice a year, is organised by the Vice-Rectorate Teaching together with one faculty at a time. It is aimed at lecturers, programme directors, student representatives and other members of the university who are interested in good teaching at the University of Bern.
Information and registration for the next Teaching Lunches can be found here:

Competencies and job profiles of the future
In the past few years, teaching at the Faculty of Medicine has been strengthened for the future:
-
The introduction of the MSc AI in Medicine and the CAS AI Imaging at the Faculty of Medicine have set new standards in education. Both programmes optimally prepare students for the digital transformation in medicine.
-
The block course and the specialisation seminar ‘Digital Medicine’ provide students with practical and theoretical skills to use digital technologies effectively in everyday clinical practice.
-
The appointment of Yara Banz as the new Head of Teaching in the DLF (Department of Teaching and Research) was an important step in the strategic development of this area.
-
The collaboration in the ‘BioMedIT’ project is a central component for the development of digital competences and the implementation of secure IT infrastructures in medicine between the Inselspital and the university.
-
New lecture series "Medical Education on the Inselcampus" promotes knowledge transfer and networking between research and practice.
The next steps include the appointment of new digital professorships, such as ‘Omics’ Data Science and Medical Data Science, as well as the further implementation of the ‘Teaching’ section of the DLF.

Managing the relationship between presence and online in teaching
Digital teaching materials are becoming increasingly essential. Students want more digitalization and digital courses so that, for example, it is easier to manage work and study. Digital courses give more people access to the university and increase inclusion. However, the university wants to remain an on-campus university, and there are some doubts on the part of lecturers. The University of Bern wants to meet all needs and find suitable compromises. Teaching should make optimal and targeted use of digital tools.
Based on the SUB survey (SUB survey - Studierendenschaft der Universität Bern (SUB) (unibe.ch)) from FS2023, the SUB is currently developing a positioning and policy paper on the compatibility of studies and other obligations. This will be finalised by May 2025 and will contain recommendations for action and positions that can ideally be supported by all stakeholders. In the upcoming months, there will be collaboration with the MVUB and the VRL (in particular LEAD), as the issue of compatibility is not limited to BA and MA students.
The recommendations for action will be published and distributed from May 2025. The position paper will then be available on the SUB website: Position papers - Studierendenschaft der Universität Bern (SUB)
